Summer is hot, it is humid and it does terrible things like make your hair frizz and your makeup melt. I have created a 5 part mini series on my favorite summer makeup staples to help you create a long-lasting summer look. I will be separating the series into bases, face, eyes, lips and finishing touches. So lets get on with the show.
In the summertime I prefer to keep my makeup light and fresh looking, to achieve this, you need to have a great base. I like a foundation / tinted moisturizer that is not full coverage, because I want some of my natural skin to peek through to get that fresh-faced I just came from the beach look.
During the summer I like to start off my makeup routine by applying a mattifying primer. Primer helps provide a smooth base, filling in many fine lines and large pores. It can help your skin look smoother and your foundation last longer. In the case of the Boots No. 7 Beautifully Matte Makeup Base, it even helps control oil production while improving blemishes (it has some salicylic acid in it). While it doesn't keep me completely matte all day long, it keeps me matte a lot longer then when I don't use it.
My go to lately has been the Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector for Combination / Oily Skin, it is quick and easy to apply. It looks great whether I apply it with my fingers, a foundation brush or a beauty blender. It has got a light - medium build-able coverage.
If I want to add even more coverage (if I am having a particularly bad skin day) I will set the BB Cream with my Bare Minerals Original Foundation. Some days I just wear the Bare Minerals which also can provide a light - medium build-able coverage. I have been wearing Bare Minerals on and off for years. I love to go back to it when I have a really bad breakout because I know that it definitely does not irritate my skin.
What are your favorite bases and foundations to use in the summer? Do you prefer tinted moisturizer or foundation or nothing at all?
