Bonjour, Salud, and Other French Things

WARNING: This is a little different from my typical beauty, fashion, food and occasional decorating posts, but I really just wanted to share it with you. because I have been addicted to this for a week.

Since high school I have been trying to learn a language. I took 2 or 3 years of French in high school and one semester of it in college. Learning language in the classroom has always been a struggle for me. In the end I was able to read it but I struggled with writing and conversing.

Last week I found a new app for my iPhone called "Duolingo". It is a free app that helps you learn a language. Of course I chose french because I thought it would be a nice refresher (but they also have Spanish and German and some other language choices as well).

Unlike a typical classroom you don't sit there memorizing verbs and how to conjugate them. It teaches you like you would be learning it more naturally. (Like that super expensive language program that everyone raves about but no one wants to pay $700 for).

The app takes you through a series of exercises using a series of basic words. There will sometimes be a series of pictures with the words in french below saying "choose the cat". Then they will use that word in a sentence and then will have you translate it out of words available at the bottom. Sometimes you have to translate it with no help and just typing.

They also will then give you the sentence in English that you have to translate into French. The app even has you work on pronunciation.

I have been really enjoying practicing and learning French. I do one to two lessons everyday on the train, its quick, easy and you can do it on your own time. Plus the bonus is that the app is free!

Au revoir, mes amies!

If you could learn a language what would you learn?
